Philippi, WV. -- The Malone University men's lacrosse team traveled to West Virginia to play Alderson Broadus and try to get back in the winning column.
The Pioneers held onto a slight lead through the half, and then finished strong in the fourth quarter to secure the first ever conference win for the program.

THE GAME
Malone's own,
Talon Heath, struck first to start the game with about 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.
Malone and Alderson Broadus proceeded to go shot for shot, both scoring two in the first half with
Nolan Winter closing out the quarter for the Pioneers.
The Battlers scored first in the opening of the second quarter, but was answered quickly by
Nolan Winter's back to back goals in just under 30 seconds.
Kenny Kaiser,
Zac Smargiasso, and
Talon Heath also helped out in the second half, leading the Pioneers into the half with a 7-6 lead over the Battlers.
Talon Heath opened up the second half with another goal. But, both teams had answers for each others' goals.
Talon Heath ended up scoring four times in the third quarter, along with
Ramsey Burnard and
Zac Smargiasso to try and stay ahead of the Battlers.
Things started opening up for the Pioneers in the fourth with another back to back goals by
Nolan Winter in less than 40 seconds.
Kenny Kaiser added to the unanswered goals, along with another set of goals by
Nolan Winter. Malone's star goalie even got in on the action, scoring with just over a minute to go in the game.
The Malone men secured their first conference victory with a 19-13 win in West Virginia.

Malone comes back home for another G-MAC conference matchup against Mercyhurst University at 4:00pm next Tuesday.
