TUSCON, Ariz. -- The Malone University baseball team spent spring break in the Tuscon area of Arizona playing in the Tucson Invitational Games.
The Pioneers played a total of eight games over the course of nine days.
Malone put together several strong performances, and went 5-3 overall on the week.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK
- Six different players (Clayton Criss, JC Philippi, Anthony Ryan, Tyson Gingerich, Jaxon Snyder, Jordan Stevens) played in at least two games, and posted a batting average of at least .400
- Clayton Criss led the team with a .529 batting average.
- Evan Balzano and Anthony Ryan each had 12 RBIs on the week.
- Eight of Balzano's RBIs came in the 16-9 win over Walsh which was played as a non-conference game.
- Ten of Ryan's RBIs came within the first three games which helped him pick up Great Midwest North Division Baseball Offensive Athlete of the Week honors.
- Malone stole 27 bases as a team, led by 9 from Tyson Gingerich.
- The Pioneers had 25 extra base hits as a team, and hit .362 on the week.
- Anthony Ryan, Tyson Gingerich, Evan Balzano, Clayton Criss, Jake Aleman, and Jordan Stevens all had multiple extra base hits.
- Devin Norton, Mitch Maurer, Michael Cook, and Nate Plack all started multiple games on the mound.
- Norton totaled a team-best 16 strikeouts, and led the way with 12.0 innings pitched.
- Cooper Davies made a team-high four appearances. He was also credited with a pair of wins.
- Maurer's 8.0 IP, 7 K, 1 ER performance against Concordia University, St. Paul helped lift Malone to the 3-2 win on Thursday.
- As a pitching staff the Pioneers struck out 65 batters.
WHAT'S NEXT
Malone will be back on the field on Friday, March 17 when they open up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play at Ohio Dominican University.
