CANTON, Ohio. — The Malone women's basketball team (6-5, 2-1 G-MAC) fell in a tightly-contested contest to Fairmont State University (10-1, 5-0 MEC) by a score of 73-68.
In the first quarter, Malone got off to a promising start with a well-executed layup by
Erin Kaufman in the paint, assisted by
Brinn Hunt. However, Malone experienced a couple of turnovers, allowing Fairmont State to capitalize on steals. Malone managed to stay competitive, with key plays such as a three-pointer by
Kyli Horn, assisted by
Erin Kaufman. Despite some turnovers and defensive challenges, Malone kept the game close.
Erin Kaufman continued to be a force in the paint, contributing to Malone's offensive efforts and the Pioneers trailed 13-11.
The second quarter saw the Falcons take a larger 33-26 lead, but Malone found a way to claw back.
Kyli Horn knocked down a three-pointer and the Pioneers only trailed by four at the half.Â
Erin Kaufman started the quarter with a missed layup, but
Brooklyn Troyer quickly made up for it with a good layup in the paint, assisted by Kaufman. The quarter ended with Malone holding a slim 53-54 lead.
In the fourth, both teams continued battle back and forth. A jumper by
Aila Miller gave the Pioneers a slim 58-56 lead.  As the time ticked away, the game continued to remain tight.
Erin Kaufman knocked in a layup to give Malone another lead at 64-62 lead. Unfortunately, Fairmont went on a nice run to end the game and win 73-68.

Erin Kaufman led Malone with an impressive 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Kyli Horn tallied 15 points, while knocking down four three pointers.
Brooklyn Troyer contributed 11 points.
What's Next
Malone will be back in action on Thursday vs Kentucky Wesleyan College. The game is slated to tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET.
