Lake Erie Holds Off Malone for G-MAC Win

Canton, OH-- The Malone University women's soccer team battled the Lake Erie College Storm in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Saturday afternoon. It was Senior Day for the seven senior Pioneer Soccer players.

It was the lone goal by Lake Erie in the first half that proved to be the difference maker in the game. Despite Malone having several looks to score, the Strom came away with the 1-0 win.

The Game
Both defenses came to play early on and neither team was getting anything going offensively. Malone had a chance to break through first in the 23rd minute, but the shot by  Brynn Mowrer was saved by the Lake Erie goal keeper.

Lake Erie's Florida Blake made a significant impact on the game, scoring the lone goal at the 32:21 mark. This proved to be the lone goal scored in the match.

In the 67th minute of the second half, Brynn Mowrer had another excellent opportunity to score, but again her shot was saved by the Lake Erie keeper. The Pioneers kept pushing and another opportunity came around in the 79th minute.

This time, it was Morgan Ross with a shot on goal. Unfortunately, it did not find the back of the net and the Storm found a way to win 1-0

In terms of shot attempts, both teams were pretty even. Lake Erie fired off 12 shots, with 4 of them on target. On the other side, Malone wasn't far behind, with 11 shots, 3 of which were on goal. This balanced offensive effort from both teams kept the game competitive throughout.

Defensively, both teams displayed resilience and solid goalkeeping. Lake Erie's keeper made 3 saves, while Malone's Amelia Henderhan  stopped 3 shots on target. The shot opportunities were there for both teams, but goal keeping and defense were keys for Lake Erie winning the game.
