Late Second-Half Run Gives Cedarville a Win over Malone

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The Malone University men's basketball team opened up another long stretch of road games on Saturday with a trip to Cedarville University. 

Cedarville lead Malone by just four points late in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets closed strong en route to a 90-79 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) win.

THE GAME
Five straight points from Levi Seiler opened up the game for Malone. The Pioneers went on to stretch their lead out to as many as 12 points early on in the first half. 

Bo Myers capped off a three-point play to put Malone ahead 14-2 with 14:12 still remaining in the opening period. 

Unfortunately hot shooting from beyond the three-point arc by the Yellow Jackets allowed Cedarville to quickly get back into the game. 

Just over one minute later CU had cut MU's lead down to 14-10. 

The two sides continued to trade baskets through the rest of the half before a late effort by the Jackets allowed Cedarville to carry a 42-37 lead into the locker room. 

Malone, stayed within just a basket or two, and got to within just one point of Cedarville two different times in the second half. Unfortunately Malone was never was able to retake the lead. 

The Jackets outscored the Pioneers 18-10 over the final 6:50 of the game to grab the 90-79 win.

DETAILS
  • Justin Miller scored a game-high 29 points on 11-20 shooting from the field. He was 4-9 from three-point range.
  • Levi Seiler added 20 points on an efficient 9-10 shooting from the field. It is Seiler's second 20-point performance in the last three games. 
  • Bo Myers pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds, and also scored 16 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
WHAT'S NEXT
Malone travels to the newest member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference next weekend. The Pioneers will take on the Timberwolves of Northwood University. 

Tip-off from Midland, Michigan on February 4 is set for 3:00 p.m.
