Pioneers Complete Comeback Win at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Malone University women's basketball team continued their road trip as they traveled to Tiffin University for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) game.

After trailing the Dragons for a majority of the second quarter, the Pioneers completed a second half comeback to win by 10 points.

  • Records: Malone (13-5, 7-3 G-MAC) | Tiffin (5-14, 2-8 G-MAC)
  • Location: Tiffin, Ohio | Gillmor Student Center

THE GAME
Alexis Hutchison took the game's opening possession and scored a three-pointer. The Dragons and the Pioneers exchanged baskets the entire first quarter, and the first ten minutes of play ended with Tiffin having a 11-10 advantage.

The second quarter scoring started with Kyli Horn sinking one from deep. Tiffin turned the scoreboard back in their favor with a 8-point run, highlighted with back to back three-pointers.

Hutchison tied up the score at 22 with 4:07 left in the first half with a steal into a fastbreak layup.  However, the Dragons scored another eight unanswered.

Brooklyn Troyer sank a three-pointer for the final score before halftime to cut the deficit to five points.

Coming out of the locker room, the Pioneers quickly closed the gap with Horn and Hutchison. The third quarter was similar to the first quarter as the two teams traded baskets.

It was not until under two minutes that Tiffin took a two possession lead, but Horn got a shot from the paint at the end of the quarter.

The Dragons still held a three-point lead.

The final quarter opened with another Pioneer score, this time a layup from Troyer.

Emma Kallas gave Malone the lead on a free throw with under five minutes to play in regulation.

Hutchison led the Pioneers into nine unanswered with seven straight points herself, five coming at the charity stripe.

Troyer closed out the dominate Pioneer fourth quarter with two of her own free throws.

The Pioneers outscored the home team 19-6 in the final ten minutes of the game to help seal the ten point victory.
