CANTON -- Thursday afternoon, for the first time in the 2022 season, the Malone University women's soccer team played a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) contest.
The Pioneers surrendered a late first-half goal to the visiting University of Findlay Oilers, and Malone was unable to answer in the second-half as UF held on for the 1-0 win.
THE ESSENTIALS
- Final Score: University of Findlay Oilers 1 - Malone University Pioneers 0
- Records: Findlay (2-1-1, 1-0 G-MAC) | Malone (1-2, 0-1 G-MAC)
- Location: Canton, Ohio | Pioneer Park - King Field
THE MATCH
Offense was hard to come by on both sides early on.
Both teams were able to possess the ball, but struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Unfortunately, UF broke the scoreless tie when Elizabeth Talabac collected a loose ball in the box, and put it into the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
The Pioneers did a good job of being aggressive offensively in the second half, but still found it difficult to find the equalizer.
In the end the Oilers were able to turn away all four of Malone's second-half shots to hang on for the 1-0 win.
DETAILS
The Pioneers were outshot by Findlay 8-4, however only two of those shots were on goal for the Oilers.
UF earned eight corner kicks, compared to zero for Malone.
WHAT'S NEXT
The early season homestand continues for the Pioneers this weekend.
Malone will host the newest member of the G-MAC, Northwood University, on Saturday. Kick-off from King Field is slated for 1:00 p.m.
