Malone Collects G-MAC Point After 1-1 Draw at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team played their first road match of the season Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers were in the capital city of the 'Buckeye State' for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup with the Ohio Dominican University Panthers.

Malone scored in the first half, but ODU equaled that goal in the second half and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

THE ESSENTIALS
  • Final Score: Malone University Pioneers 1 - Ohio Dominican University Panthers 1
  • Records: Malone (1-2-2, 0-1-2 G-MAC) | Ohio Dominican (1-2-3, 1-0-2 G-MAC)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio | Panther Stadium

THE MATCH
It took less than five minutes for the Pioneers to get on the scoreboard.

Freshman Brynn Mowrer beat the ODU keeper for her second goal of the season. The score ties her with Teegan Graff for the team lead this year.

Malone dominated the rest of the first half, getting off five more shots, but the ODU defense kept the Pioneers at just the one goal.

On the other end of the field Malone's defense limited the Panthers to just one shot opportunity that was not on goal.

The second half featured several more scoring chances for the home team, and ODU broke through for the equalizer in the 70th minute.

Neither team was able to get a goal over the final twenty minutes and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

DETAILS
Despite being outshot by ODU 13-10 overall, Malone gave themselves more quality looks at goal. Seven of the Pioneer shots were on frame compared to just five for the Panthers.

Freshman Kassidy Cannon, who has played every minute in goal for Malone up to this point in this season, added four saves to her season-total of 17.

WHAT'S NEXT
Malone returns home next week for a conference tilt with Ursuline College on Thursday, September 22. Kick-off from King Field is set for 7:00 p.m.
