GAINESVILLE, Ga. --The stroke play portion of the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship came to an end Thursday afternoon at Chattahooche Golf Club.
Malone University graduate student
Christina Williams posted her best score of the week, a final round 74 (+2) which tied her for a 35th place overall finish on the leaderboard.
For the third consecutive day Williams was +4 after shooting a 40 on the front nine. However, she closed her round extremely well.
After playing the first six holes of the back nine at even par, Williams birdied both 16 and 17. Another par on hole 18 got her into the clubhouse with a 74, her best round of the week.
This week's effort at the national championship bring an end to Christina's highly decorated career at Malone. Head women's golf coach
Bill Eddins had this to say:
"Christina had an outstanding tournament, shooting an impressive 54-hole total of 229. That number is the second-best 54-hole score in program history, only behind the 221 she shot last week at the regional. While this marks the end of Christina's Hall of Fame career at Malone, it is only the beginning of competing for conference tournament titles and trips to the NCAA Tournament for this program. A new standard of success has been set for Malone women's golf as result of Christina's stellar play. For Christina this was the culmination of an incredible effort as a young junior circuit player, a great high school player, and an exceptional Division II career. Her legacy will serve as an inspiration and motivation to achieve higher levels of success in the program. I want to thank the NCAA, city of Gainesville, and Chattahoochee Golf Club in Georgia for putting on an incredible championship. Personally, I am grateful for the unwavering support of Christina's parents Brian and Alice Williams. Congratulations! What a ride!"
