CANTON -- After dealing with a rash of rain outs and postponements due to Northeast Ohio's ever popular spring weather, the Malone University softball team was finally back on the field Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers welcomed the Ohio Dominican University Panthers to campus for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader.
Unfortunately, the Panthers (21-13, 11-1 G-MAC) swept the doubleheader over the Pioneers (6-13, 2-6 G-MAC) by scores of 9-1 and 4-2.
Game 1 Highlights
ODU opened up the scoring with three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning.
The Pioneers got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning when
Erika Johnson scored on a wild pitch.
Unfortunately that was the end of Malone's scoring in the opener.
The Panthers added two runs in the second inning, and scored four more runs in the fifth to pick up the 9-1 run-rule victory.
Game 2 Highlights
Ohio Dominican picked up right where they left off in the second game by scoring the first four runs of the game unanswered.
The Panthers plated one run each in the second and third innings, and added two to their tally in the top of the fourth.
Malone's offense came to life in the bottom half of the fifth.
Karlie Duvall laced a one-out double into left field. In the very next at bat
Reagan Smith launched her first home run of the season to bring MU to within just two runs of ODU.
Unfortunately the Pioneers could not complete the comeback as the Panthers held on down the stretch to complete the doubleheader sweep with the 4-2 win.
PIONEER POINTS
