AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Malone University baseball team continued their spring break trip on Saturday with contests against both Gannon University and the University of Sciences.
The Pioneers (7-3, 0-0 G-MAC) dropped the morning game 21-10 to Gannon (4-3, 0-0 PSAC), and then fell in the afternoon to USciences (3-7, 0-0 CACC) 11-1.
Game 1 vs Gannon Highlights
The Golden Knights did score runs in six of the seven innings played, but the game was not put out of reach until a five-run top of the fifth was followed by a nine-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning.
Gannon led 20-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Pioneer offense pounded out 13 hits which led to ten runs, but it was not enough.
Malone's big inning came in the bottom of the seventh. MU plated six runs on three hits.
Matt Hicks,
Cole Maley,
Petey Taylor, and
Jake Aleman all had RBIs in the inning.
Unfortunately it was not enough to overcome to ten-run rule that is in place at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, and Gannon prevailed 21-10.
Game 2 vs USciences Highlights
Malone opened up their second game of the day by scoring the first run of the ballgame.
JT Tonelli laced a one-out single. He later came around to score on a Devils error to put MU up 1-0.
Unfortunately, USciences scored the next eleven runs of the game unanswered to capture the 11-1 victory.
