CANTON -- After two straight weeks of road matches, the Malone University women's soccer team was back at home Thursday night for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match against Ashland University.
The Eagles entered the contest ranked as the No. 24 team in the most recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll.Â
The match was tied 0-0 at halftime, but a pair of second-half goals helped lift Ashland to the 2-0 win.Â
THE ESSENTIALS
- Final Score: Ashland University Eagles 2 - Malone University Pioneers 0
- Records: Ashland (9-3-0, 7-1-0 G-MAC) | Malone (1-6-3, 0-5-3 G-MAC)

THE MATCH
Malone's defense was under attack in the first half, but the Pioneers were able to keep Ashland off the scoreboard.Â
The Eagles were credited with nine shots, but the defensive backline did a good job of making the opportunities hard to come by. Only two of the shots were on goal, and freshman keeper
Kassidy Cannon made both saves.Â
Malone's offense had a strong look at goal just over 12 minutes into the match, but Ashland's keeper made a diving save to turn
Brynn Mowrer's chance away.Â
Ultimately the match remained tied 0-0 at halftime.Â
Unfortunately the Eagles kept up their attack in the second half. Ashland broke through for goals in both the 59th and 74th minute to come away with the 2-0 win.Â
WHAT'S NEXT
Malone will travel to Cedarville University for a 7:00 p.m. match Saturday night.Â
