Tiffin Hangs on For G-MAC Win Over Malone on Thursday

CANTON -- The Malone University women's soccer team battled the Tiffin University Dragons in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Thursday afternoon.

An early red card forced the Pioneers to play short-handed for the majority of the game. Despite that Malone dominated possession, and had several strong looks at goal. Unfortunately it was the Dragons who were able to come away with the 2-1 win.

THE ESSENTIALS
  • Final Score: Tiffin University Dragons 2 - Malone University Pioneers 1
  • Records: Tiffin (6-8-2, 4-7-1 G-MAC) | Malone (1-10-3, 0-9-3 G-MAC)
  • Location: Canton, Ohio | Pioneer Park - King Field

THE MATCH
In the seventh minute of the game the Dragons appeared to have a clean look at the Malone goal for the opening score. Teegan Graff was called for an intentional handball while defending the scoring chance which forced Malone to play with only 10 players for the final 83 minutes of the contest.

That red card resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Tiffin. Kassidy Cannon saved the penalty kick, but Tiffin collected the rebound and put the ball home for the game's first goal.

Twenty minutes later the Dragons broke through for another score to push their lead out to 2-0.

Despite being down a player to their competition, and down 2-0 on the scoreboard, the Pioneers continued to fight back. Malone actually outshot Tiffin 7-6 in the first half. Five of the Pioneer looks were on frame.

Malone continued their offensive pressure in the second half, getting off a total of 15 shots and 10 on goal. Unfortunately only one of them found the back of Tiffin's net.

In the 78th minute Brynn Mowrer put home a pass from Makiah Newport for the Pioneer goal.

The 2-1 score remained for the final minutes of the game, and Tiffin held on for the win.

WHAT'S NEXT
Malone will play their final road game of the 2022 season Saturday when they travel to Lake Erie College for an 11:00 a.m. kick-off.
