CANTON -- Saturday, as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Malone University women's soccer team welcomed Trevecca Nazarene University to King Field.
Prior to kick-off the Pioneers honored the careers of:
Payton Beech,
Savannah Ebin,
Alexis Huscroft, and
Anna Schmeltzer as part of Senior Day.
Unfortunately the visiting Torjans spoiled the celebration later in the day, as they escaped with a 2-1 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) victory.
THE ESSENTIALS
- Final Score: Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans 2 - Malone University Pioneers 1
- Records: Trevecca Nazarene (8-3-4, 6-2-3 G-MAC) | Malone (1-9-3, 0-8-3 G-MAC)
- Location: Canton, Ohio | Pioneer Park - King Field
THE MATCH
It took less than five minutes for the Pioneers to light up the scoreboard.
Just 4:45 into the match
Morgan Ross connected with
Deborah Araujo Messor, and Messor beat the TNU keeper for a goal to put Malone up 1-0.
The Pioneers' defense turned several scoring opportunities away for Trevecca, but the Trojans were able to fight back and get the equalizer in the 23rd minute.
It appeared the match would head to halftime tied at 1-1, but with just over a minute remaining in the first half Trevecca scored again to take a 2-1 lead.
That 2-1 advantage for the visitors held through the entire second-half, and TNU picked up the 2-1 victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
Malone will host Tiffin University on Thursday. Kick-off from King Field is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
