Walsh Claims Rivalry Win Over the Pioneers

CANTON, Ohio -- Thursday night, the Malone University men's soccer team faced off against rival Walsh University for their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match of the season.

The Cavaliers (4-0-1), put the pressure on early, and tallied three goals within the first half.

They were able to hold that lead for the rest of the game to capture the 3-0 win over the Malone Pioneers (0-5-0).

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Cavs came out of the gate strong, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes.

The Pioneer defense regrouped, but a late penalty kick allowed Walsh to take a 3-0 advantage into halftime.

During the second half, you could feel the momentum start to switch but Malone was not able to find the back of the net.

The Pioneers kept the pressure on Walsh's side of the field and were able to rip off five shots during the half, but could not break through for a score.

In the end the Cavaliers were able to hang on to 3-0 advantage the rest of the way for the win.

PIONEER POINTS
  • Malone was out-shot by Walsh 13-10, 5-2 on target.
  • Malone and Walsh both came away with two saves.
