The Pioneers picked up a 2-0 win on Thursday, their first of the spring season. Picking up points against one of the G-MAC's top teams would be a statement to the rest of the conference that Malone is looking to make a postseason run.
Patrick Alvarez and
Kabanu Witherspoon netted goals for the Pioneers in the senior day victory. It was the first goal of the season for both Pioneer players.
The defensive unit of
Joseph Arciniegas,
Ryan Dean,
Oriol Roset and
Dylan Metz contributed to the shutout of the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans last week. They were excellent at preventing looks inside. Although Trevecca Nazarene outshot Malone in the game, most of them came from outside the box.
Nick Wilhelm secured the win in goal for the Pioneers, but briefly left the match in the first half with an injury. Witherspoon stepped in and made three saves to keep the zero in the Trojan scoring column, and Wilhelm returned in the second half to close the deal.
