Women's Soccer Falls to Walsh in Double Overtime

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team battled rival Walsh University at North Canton Hoover High School on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers (2-2, 1-2 G-MAC) scored first, but in the end it was two late goals by the Cavaliers (2-0, 2-0 G-MAC) that allowed Walsh to come away with a 2-1 victory.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone got on the board early. In the 7th minute Sally Culig scored her first goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage.

At that point the Malone defense locked in and made things difficult for the Walsh attack. The Pioneers limited the Cavaliers' opportunities, only allowing Walsh to get off six first-half shots. Four of those were on target, but Jessica Morgan was there for the save each time.

The teams went to the half with Malone leading 1-0.

The Pioneers got the first good offensive opportunity of the second half, but Keeley Malley's shot was saved.

Walsh turned up their offensive attack, but they did not break through for a goal until the 73rd minute.

The Cavaliers had two more looks at goal after they tied the match, but the Malone defense held strong and the game went into overtime.

The Pioneers put some pressure on in the first overtime period. Malone outshot Walsh 3-1, but unfortunately both of the Pioneer shots on goal were saved.

After ten extra minutes of play the match was still tied 1-1, and headed into a second overtime.

In the 108th minute the Cavaliers broke free and ended the game with a goal.
