CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team will play the home opener of their 2020-21 championship season this afternoon. The Pioneers will host Lake Erie College in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.

MALONE-LAKE ERIE SOCCER SERIES
This afternoon's match will be the tenth meeting all-time between these two programs. Currently the Pioneers hold a 6-2-1 advantage in the season series.
Malone dominated last year's matchup, winning 3-0 in a match played at home. The last win for Lake Erie in the series came back in September of 2014, a 1-0 overtime victory in Painesville.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
Spectators and fans of both the Pioneers and the visiting teams are both welcome and encouraged to attend. Malone University is required to abide by GlenOak High School's COVID-19 protocols.
All spectators are required to wear a mask, only sit with members of their groups and families, and remain socially distant from other groups and families.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- Alexis Huscroft has been asked to step in and serve as Malone's keeper for the first two matches this season. The sophomore has played all 180 minutes in goal, and has made six saves this year. She earned a shutout victory in the Pioneers' 3-0 win over Hiram to open the season.

Madeline Ault leads the team with two goals this season. In that opening win over Hiram she finished with five points. She scored two goals and assisted on the other goal scored by Allison Schmeltzer.

Malone's offensive attack has been accurate and efficient with their opportunities so far this year. 22 of their 32 total shots have been on goal.
- The Pioneers' offense is currently ranked second in the G-MAC in scoring, only behind preseason favorite Findlay.

Malone also sits tied for second in the conference in corner kicks with nine.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT
Lake Erie enters this afternoon's match off of 1-0 loss at Ohio Dominican to open the season. The Panthers outshot the Storm 14-7 in the contest.
In the Great Midwest Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour the Storm were picked to finish ninth overall, one spot behind the Pioneers.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pioneers are in the portion of the schedule that includes five consecutive home matches. Malone will host Walsh University on Saturday afternoon at North Canton Hoover High School. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
