Malone and Lake Erie Trade Late Goals in 1-1 Draw

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Malone University women's soccer team tied with Lake Erie College with the final score at 1-1. The Pioneers are 4-6-3 on the year, while the Storm move to 3-7-4. In the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), Malone moves to 3-5-2, while Lake Erie bumps to 2-6-2.

The Pioneers kicked the first period off quickly with a shot by Raegan Radel in the fourth minute, but the Storm's goalkeeper made the stop. Malone continued the pressure with another shot by Radel in the 22nd minute but was unsuccessful. Eliza Wills and Nayeli Cruz both had an opportunity to get Malone on the board in the 26th and 27th minutes, but were unable to capitalize on the shots. The Pioneers and the Storm both went into halftime scoreless.

Malone kept the pressure on during the second half with shots from Morgan Kandel in the 60th minute, but Lake Erie's goalkeeper made the correct read. Wills and Raegan tried to find an answer with back-to-back shots but were unable to take the lead. As the game continued into the 81st minute, Jojo Knight capitalized on a shot and gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead thanks to a long entry pass from Kandel.  As the match continued, the Storm found a last-minute goal to tie the match at 1-1. Malone had one last chance in the final minute with a shot from Emily Bayles to retake the lead, but fell short in the end. At the final whistle, the Pioneers tied 1-1 with Lake Erie.

Malone's offense was explosive in the second half and outshot the Storm 11-5. Goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan (4-6-3) finished the night with two saves for the Pioneers. Henderhan, Wills, Maya Najjar, and Emmilina Miller stayed on the pitch for the full 90.

The Malone University women's soccer team will look to keep their heads up as they travel to North Canton, Ohio, to take on cross-town rivals, Walsh University, for another Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. Kickoff is at 4:30 P.M.
