Pioneers Cruise Past Mount Aloysius College 101-62 on Saturday

CANTON -- The Malone University men's basketball team was back at home on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference game against Mount Aloysius College.

The Pioneers (2-2, 0-0 G-MAC) took control of the game early in the first half, and had their way down the stretch en route to a 101-62 win over the Mounties (1-5, 0-0 AMCC)

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Mounties opened up the scoring, and actually led by as many as six points less than two minutes into the game. Malone quickly changed that however.

Justin Miller completed an old-fashioned three-point play to bring the Pioneers within a possession. After a stop on the defensive end, Bo Myers drilled a three-pointer to tie the game at 9-9.

Bryce Butler followed with back-to-back steals defensively. He converted layups on the other end of the floor both times to put the Pioneers ahead 13-9.

Malone did not trail again the rest of the afternoon.

Elijah Hinton gave the Pioneers their first double-digit lead of the day with a pair of free throws at the 11:43 mark of the first half.

Mount Aloysius continued to hang tough for several possessions, but a huge 18-0 run by Malone late in the half really swung momentum in favor of the home team.

Levi Seiler ignited the run with a jump shot, but the run was highlighted by 14 points from junior Bo Myers. Myers connected on three baskets from long-range, and ultimately helped give the Pioneers a 51-25 lead.

Malone did not let up heading into halftime, and it was Myers who beat the first-half buzzer with another three-pointer to give the Pioneers a 57-29 lead at the break.

Although the final outcome was never in doubt, Malone kept the pressure on in the second half.

Myers opened up the second half the same way that he finished a the first, with a three-pointer, which gave the Pioneers their first 30+ point lead of the game.

The Mounties got to within 26 points a couple of different times, but it was too much Malone down the stretch.

Tracey Sumner put the Pioneers up 92-41 with a layup at the 5:11 mark of the second half. Then, with less than a minute left to play, Levi MacAdam helped Malone eclipse the century mark with his first points of the 2021-22 season.

Ultimately the Pioneers moved to 2-2 on the season with the 101-62 win.

PIONEER POINTS
  • Bo Myers set a new career-high with 36 points. He was 9-14 from three-point range, coming up just one triple short of tying the school record for made three pointers in a single game. Four games into the season the junior leads the G-MAC scoring 29.0 points per game.
  • Eleven different players saw minutes for Malone, and nine different players found their way into the scoring column. Justin Miller (16), Bryce Butler (15), and Tracey Sumner (10) each scored in double-digits.
  • The Pioneers dominated nearly every statistical category in the matchup. Malone outrebounded Mount Aloysius 57-32. They forced the Mounties into 16 turnovers which led to 27 points on the other end. The Pioneers also held a 28-11 advantage on second-chance points.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers continue the current homestand after the Thanksgiving holiday. Malone is back in action on Saturday, November 27, when they host the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Tip off from Osborne Hall is set for 7:00 p.m.
