CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University men's basketball team will play their first home game of the 2021-22 season this week when the Pioneers host the Wheeling University Cardinals out of the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
Malone will look to pick up their first win of the season after dropping a pair of non-conference games in Michigan over the weekend.

- Had the ball bounced differently just a couple of times over the weekend the Pioneers might be sitting at 2-0. Instead, Malone is looking for their first win of the season after a 94-92 overtime loss at Northwood on Friday and an 85-80 loss at Saginaw Valley State on Saturday.
- Friday night, junior Bo Myers netted a career-high 33 points to lead all scorers. He was 13-19 from the field, and also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double. The Rockbridge, Ohio native followed that performance up with 24 points on Saturday. He enters play on Wednesday as the Pioneers leading scorer at 28.5 points per game.
- Justin Miller was Malone's leading scorer on Saturday with 27 points. He comes into Wednesday's contest averaging 22.0 points per game on the young season.
- Jaret Majestic was the only other Pioneer to cross the double-digit scoring threshold in both games over the weekend. He scored 15 against Northwood and had 12 against Saginaw Valley.
- Seventh-year head coach Casey Kaufman went with a short rotation over the weekend. The same five players: Jaret Majestic, Bo Myers, Simon Blair, Justin Miller, and Levi Seiler started both games. Eli Ramsey and Elijah Hinton were the only players who saw minutes off the bench.

- The Cardinals enter Wednesday's matchup at 1-1 after being on either side of a pair of one possession games over the weekend.
- Wheeling opened up the season with a 72-70 win over East Stroudsburg on Friday, but then lost to Winston-Salem State 66-65 on Saturday when the Rams hit a jump shot inside the final two seconds of the game.
- Wheeling, who finished 6-12 overall last season, is led by second-year head coach Chris Richardson.
- The two top scorers from last season, graduate student Jordan Reid and senior Jarett Haines, are both back for the Cardinals. Both players picked up right where they left off last season. Reid leads WU with 18.5 points per game this year, while Haines is averaging 13.5
