CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team welcomed the Ohio Dominican University Panthers to Pioneer Park on Saturday for a crucial Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match.
Madeleine Ault,
Jessica Morgan,
Alexa Langenfeld,
Natalie Martorana, and
Alenna Bible were all honored prior to the match as part of the Senior Day festivities.
In what has been a common occurrence for the Pioneers (2-9-4, 2-7-3 G-MAC) this season, the match went into overtime.
Unfortunately, the Panthers (7-7-2, 7-4-2 G-MAC) netted the golden goal in the second overtime to escape with the 1-0 win.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Malone's defense, anchored by senior
Jessica Morgan in goal, weathered six shots from ODU in the first half, but turned away every chance.
The Pioneers struggled to make much happen on the offensive end, and the match went to halftime scoreless.
Ohio Dominican continued their strong offensive attack in the second half, but all eleven of their shots were missed. Morgan made saves on all eight of the shots on goal.
On the offensive end for Malone
Alexis Huscroft and
Teegan Graff both had shots on goal, but the Panther defense kept them off the board to force extra time.
Anna Schmeltzer had an outstanding look at a goal in the 93rd minute, but her left footed shot went just wide.
After the first ten minutes of extra time the match was still scoreless.
Ohio Dominican netted the game winner in the 108th minute to pull out the 1-0 win.
PIONEER POINTS
- With 11 saves, Jessica Morgan topped double digits for the fifth time this season.
