Women's Soccer Falls at Home to Walsh 3-1

CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team took on the Walsh University Cavaliers in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match on a chilly Tuesday night.

The visiting Cavaliers silenced the Pioneer Park crowd with an early goal. Walsh (5-9-3, 5-6-2 G-MAC) held a 2-0 lead at halftime, and matched Malone's (2-10-4, 2-8-3 G-MAC) second half goal to win 3-1.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Cavaliers essentially needed all three points from a victory to secure the final spot in this weekend's Great Midwest Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

The sense of urgency was evident, especially in the early going. The Walsh attack earned three corner kicks inside the first five minutes.

The Cavaliers broke through for their first goal in the ninth minute.

A few minutes later the Pioneers had two outstanding looks at an equalizer. Unfortunately both attempts from Madeleine Ault were saved by the Walsh keeper.

WU went on to add to their lead when they converted a corner kick opportunity for a goal in the 25th minute.

That 2-0 lead held at the halftime break.

The Cavaliers pushed their advantage out to 3-0 with another score in the 76th minute.

Malone got on the board with Bridget Harris' first career goal in the 84th minute, but the Pioneers ran out of time to overcome the remainder of the 3-1 defecit.

PIONEER POINTS
  • Malone was outshot 17-8. Madeleine Ault led the way with three shots. All three of them were on goal.
  • Jessica Morgan made nine saves. The senior finishes the season with 113, the second-most in the G-MAC.
  • Bridget Harris' late goal was the first of her career. She become the eighth different player to score for Malone this season.
