CANTON, Ohio -- The Malone University women's soccer team was back on their home pitch on Saturday afternoon for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tilt with the newest members of the G-MAC, the Ashland University Eagles. 

Prior to kick-off a dedication ceremony was held for the newly constructed competition field at Pioneer Park. 

Unfortunately for Malone, the celebration did not last long.

The Eagles (6-1-2, 5-0-1 G-MAC) scored a pair of first half goals, and added to that total in the second half on their way to a 4-1 win over the Pioneers (0-5-2, 0-3-1). 

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
After both teams spent the early portion of the game settling into a rhythm, Ashland opened up the scoring with a goal in the 21st minute. 

The Eagles added to their total just over ten minutes later, which allowed Ashland to carry a 2-0 lead to the halftime break. 

AU continued to capitalize on their opportunities in the second half. 

The Eagles scored in both the 50th and 55th minutes to push their lead out to 4-0. 

The Pioneers got their response in the 82nd minute when Madeleine Ault beat the defensive back line, and the AU keeper for her third goal of the season. 

Unfortunately for Malone, that was the only goal Ashland surrendered as they held on for the 4-1 win.

• Ault had the only two shots on goal for Malone. Her three goals scored on the season rank inside the top-10 in the G-MAC.

The Pioneers hit the road on Thursday night for a G-MAC matchup at the University of Findlay. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
