MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Malone University women's golf team took over Music City, USA on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the 2021 Women's Music City Invitational hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University.Â
The Pioneers, with a 36-hole team score of 625, finished eighth overall in the sixteen team field that was full of strong competition from both in-region and out of region teams. MU slotted in ahead of Great Midwest Athletic Conference rivals Walsh University, Ashland University, and Trevecca Nazarene University.Â
Christian Brothers University won the event with a team total of 605.Â
The Pioneers opened up play on Monday with a score of 312. The opening round included a combined nine birdies from the MU lineup. Each player recorded at least one birdie on their Monday scorecard.Â
Malone came back on Tuesday and fired a 313 to solidify their eighth-place finish. Once again, each player turned in at least one birdie on their day two card.Â
Graduate student
Christina Williams sat tied for fourth-place overall after Monday's round, but she fired the only under par round on the course Tuesday to finish second overall.Â

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Pioneers will close out the fall portion of their 2021-22 schedule next week with the Phipps Memorial hosted by the University of Mount Union. The tournament will be held at the Alliance Country Club on Monday, October 25.
