Malone Sweeps the Weekend with 88-64 Win over Alderson Broaddus

The Malone University men's basketball team put together an 88-64 win on Saturday night in a road game against Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent, Alderson Broaddus. With the Battler gym undergoing renovations, the game was played at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Bo Myers finished with 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds (his first career double-double).

Malone moves to 13-10 on the season, 7-6 overall in conference play as the season winds down. Alderson Broaddus falls to 7-16 overall, 5-9 versus G-MAC foes.

Recap:
Though in unfamiliar territory playing at West Virginia Wesleyan College, the Pioneers looked at home in Buckhannon, West Virginia by making their first seven shots. A lay-up from Daylan Haynie, two by Sehill Mouliom, as well as a pair of trey balls from Jaret Majestic gave Malone a 12-2 lead and forced a Battler timeout just under three minutes into Saturday night's action. Majestic and Marcus Ernst followed the break with back-to-back shots at the rim as the Pioneers started 7-for-7 from the field.

Up 25-17, Bo Myers was electric off the bench, connecting on consecutive 3-point jumpers to extend the lead to 12 at 31-19. Levi Seiler brought energy off the bench also, scoring on an offensive rebound putback and connecting on a jumper from Ernst late in the half.

Seven shots from beyond the arc in half number one kept Alderson Broaddus in the contest, 44-33 at halftime. Majestic led the way with 13 points and Ernst chipped in with six points, seven rebounds and three assists. Malone cooled off a tad, shooting 48.6% overall in the first and defensively held the Battlers to just 35.1% from the field.

Sehill Mouliom decided that he would not be denied in the second half. The big man connected on three lay-ups to score six straight Pioneer points, but the stingy Battler team would not go away, continuing to fire away from three.

Dynamic plays from Malone offensively began to fuel the Pioneer defense in the middle stages of the second stanza. Mouliom soared for a thunderous left-handed dunk on the fast break to give Malone a 54-45 lead.

Bo Myers hit a fadeaway jump shot from the baseline just before the under-12 media timeout that led to a huge turn in momentum for the red, blue and white. Mouliom crashed the offensive glass and was there for a powerful putback dunk, followed by a left handed hook shot from the Frenchman. Consecutive three-point shots from Eli Ramsey and Bo Myers forced Alderson Broaddus to call a timeout to stop a 12-0 run.

Myers connected from deep for the fifth time on the evening with 8:21 to go to give the Pioneers a 20-point advantage at 69-49. The Battlers gave one last gasp effort to string together a comeback, cutting the deficit to as little as 13, but Majestic buried a contested three deep in the corner that triggered another flood of stops-and-scores for Malone.

Mouliom ended a perfect 8-for-8 night from the field with a pair of silky assists to Ernst for a two-hand baseline jam and a backdoor cut to Majestic to take a 79-62 lead into the final media timeout. Majestic gave blue and gold fans déjà vu with another corner three with a defender draped all over him, and Cameron Watts converted his first career long ball as the Pioneers pulled away to an 88-64 victory.

Game Highlights:
- Malone wins their second consecutive game, both of them wire-to-wire triumphs.
- Malone shot 53.8% in the game (35-of-65), including 18-of-30 shots in the second half. The Battlers were held to just 35.7% from the field (25-of-70) in the game.
- The Pioneers owned the paint, scoring 38 points inside, compared to Alderson Broaddus netting only 22. The bench unit for Malone outscored their West Virginia counterparts 33-9.
- The Battlers collected 13 offensive rebounds with the Pioneers only pulling down nine on the offensive end. Those 13 boards led to 13 points for Alderson Broaddus.

Malone Individual Highlights:
- The ball found Bo Myers' hand a lot in Saturday night's game, and he was aggressive and knew just what to do with it. The freshman finished with 21 points, 13 boards and hit five trifectas. Jaret Majestic matched Myers with a game-high 21 and five three-point shots of his own.
- Sehill Mouliom scored 16 points and was 100% from the field at 8-for-8. Mouliom has been perfect from the field many times in his Pioneer career, but eight field goals is the most he has ever had without a miss.

Alderson Broaddus Individual Highlights:
- Malik Bocook notched a double-double of his own with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
