Men’s Soccer Endures Overtime Loss at Alderson Broaddus

The Malone University men's soccer team suffered its second overtime loss of the season late Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Alderson Broaddus University. The loss drops Malone to 1-3-2 on the year and 0-3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Four of the Pioneers' six matches have gone to overtime this season.

Recap
Against an Alderson Broaddus team which improved to 3-3-1, 2-1-1 G-MAC, Malone out-shot the hosts 6-3 in the first half but came away empty. Good looks were hard to come by as the two teams combined for just three shots on goal.

The scoreless second-half featured nine Alderson Broaddus corner kicks and eight AB shot attempts, but the Pioneer defense led by seniors Jonathan Dendinger, Nick Fry, and Jake Martell, and sophomores Alexandre Durand, Evan Dekker, Patrick Alvarez, and Simon Eybert remained stout. All seven played the entirety of the match.

Offensively, Malone put three shots on goal during the final six minutes of the second half, but were thwarted each time by the AB goalkeeper. Gino Finelli and Nathan McFeaters each registered a pair of shots on goal during regulation.

In overtime, the Pioneers defended two Battler shot attempts, but the third time was a charm as Nevado Elliott netted the golden goal at the 94:25 mark of the contest.

In total, Alderson Broaddus held a slim 14-11 edge in shot attempts in a match dominated by good defense. The two teams also combined for 20 corners in the match.
