Pioneers Ready for 2019 Home Opener Tuesday Night in Osborne

The Malone University volleyball will team will make its long-awaited 2019 home debut on Tuesday, September 17th when it hosts Ashland University in a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm on Hal Smith Court in Osborne Hall.

Tickets will be sold at the door. Adults are $8, students are $5, and children 12 & under get in free. Season passes, good for all home volleyball and men's and women's basketball games, will also be available for sale.

  • The Pioneers are coming off a 2-2 weekend at the WSU Warrior Invitational, which included five-set wins over Ursuline and Wayne State.
  • Right side hitters Kayla Jarosz and Rachel Santos were each voted to the All-Tournament Team. Jarosz leads the team with 92 kills and a .296 attacking percentage and is second with 18 blocks.
  • Outside hitter Faith Lau is second on the team in kills (89), aces (11), and digs (114).
  • Middle hitter Hannah Eliason leads the team with 29 blocks through 38 sets and is third on the team with 84 kills.
  • Abbie Swaino and Elizabeth Selleny continue to share time at setter where they combine for 9.82 assists per set. Selleny totaled a career-high 35 assists in the win over Wayne State.
  • Senior libero Sydney Black is averaging is averaging a team-best 3.87 digs per set and has a team-high 12 service aces. She totaled 79 digs and eight aces in four matches last weekend.
  • Malone went 8-7 over 15 matches at home last season. Tuesday night's game is one just eight home matches for the Pioneers in 2019.
  • Malone enters Tuesday night's match with more kills (476) than any team in NCAA DII.

Ashland | Record: 6-2
  • The Eagles went 2-2 during a weekend tournament at Hillsdale where they defeated Findlay in four sets in their latest match.
  • Ashland ranks 10th in DII in kills per set (14.48) and assists per set (13.38).
  • Outside hitter Erin Krupar is the reigning is second in the GLIAC in kills per set (4.14) and is the reigning GLIAC South Player of the Week.
  • Setter Zoey Peck is fifth in the nation in assists per set (12.03).
  • Ashland has won three straight matches against Malone dating back to 2015.
