Volleyball Headed North for Four Matches at Wayne State Warrior Invite

The Malone University volleyball team travels to Detroit this weekend for four matches in the Wayne State University Warrior Invitational. Following a Friday morning non-conference battle against Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) foe Ursuline, Malone will face Midwest Region contenders Southern Indiana and Missouri-St. Louis before concluding the tournament against the hosts on Saturday night.

Malone Notes | Record: 1-4
  • The Pioneers are coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Eckerd College Invitational and a five-set loss to Notre Dame College on Tuesday night.
  • An extremely balanced offensive attack has led to five Pioneers producing between 46 and 49 kills through five matches.
  • Faith Lau and Hannah Eliason each have 49 kills, Anna Mallette has 48 kills, and Rachel Santos and Kayla Jarosz have connected on 46 kills. Santos tallied a career-high 15 kills on Tuesday night.
  • In the two-setter system, Abbie Swaino (106 assists) and Elizabeth Selleny (98) have helped the Pioneers achieve a .223 attacking percentage, fourth-best in the G-MAC.
  • Malone is also fourth in the conference in digs, averaging 16.7 per set. Lau, who also has a team-high eight service aces, leads the team with 69 digs while Sydney Black, who has started four matches at libero, is second on the squad with 68.
  • Hannah Eliason leads the team with 17 blocks ithrough 21 early-season sets.
  • Malone last played in Detroit in 2015, the final season in the GLIAC, suffering a three-set sweep to the Warriors.

  • The Arrows are led by All-Conference outside hitter Vikki Henderson (2.36 kills per set).
  • Malone and Ursuline split a pair of games last season, each teams winning on their opponent's home court.

  • Outside hitter Leah Anderson leads the Screaming Eagles with 3.45 kills per set.
  • Malone swept USI in a three-set home match last season in the Hall of Fame City Challenge, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16.
