UCLA Release
Malone University men's soccer head coach Eric Reed has resigned to accept a position on the men's soccer coaching staff at his alma mater, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Reed was hired as Malone's head coach in January of 2018 and guided the Pioneers to a 6-10-1 overall record and a 6-7-1 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play during the 2018 season. The six victories marked the program's highest win total since 2012 while the squad's 19 goals scored were the most in a single season since 2013.
"Eric did a terrific job during his time as the head coach of the men's soccer program," commented Pioneer Athletic Director Charlie Grimes. "He has laid a great foundation and has the team well-prepared for future success. Despite Coach Reed's departure, we will continue developing Malone men's soccer into a strong contender at the conference, regional and national levels. We wish him and his family the best as he pursues this opportunity at UCLA."
Reed, originally from Mission Viejo, California, competed for the Bruins as a goalkeeper from 2002-2006 and was a member of UCLA's 2002 NCAA National Championship Team. Prior to becoming the head coach at Malone, he spent time as an assistant at Bowling Green State University, Davidson College and the University of San Francisco.
Moving forward, Pioneer men's soccer assistant coach Derek Taylor, a former head coach at Lake Center Christian School, will serve as Malone's interim head coach.
