The Malone University baseball team maintained a two-game cushion for first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with a doubleheader split against Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Pioneers dropped the first game of the four-game series 8-1 in nine innings, but bounced back with a 6-2 win in the seven-inning nightcap to salvage a split.
Â
With the split, Malone is now 32-16 on the season and 21-9 in the G-MAC, Kentucky Wesleyan, meanwhile, is 27-20 overall and 19-11 in the conference play. The Pioneers can earn at least a share of the G-MAC regular season title with a win on Friday, or can claim the title outright with a sweep.
