Game Recap: Softball |

Malone Swept in Saturday's Doubleheader

The Malone University softball team dropped two games Saturday afternoon at Tiffin University. The Dragons took game one by a score of 5-2 and secured a game two victory 12-5.

Tiffin improves to 17-12 on the season, 9-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Pioneers fall to 14-12 overall, 6-8 in the G-MAC following the losses.

Game One Recap:
The game remained scoreless for the first three innings of play. In the bottom of the fourth, Tiffin plated a run after a 2-out walk, followed by a double to center field.

The Pioneers loaded the bases in the sixth after hits by Erika Johnson, Bailey Byers and April Howser, but stranded all three runners to keep the score at 1-0.

The Dragons widened the gap in the bottom of the sixth, and brought across four runs in the frame.

Facing a 5-0 deficit in their final at-bats, the Pioneers took advantage of defensive miscues to bring across two runs on a Madison Corrick fielder's choice play, but were unable to complete the comeback.

Kelsey Byers pitched all six innings in the game.

Game Two Recap:
Malone got the bats going early in game two, and scored a run right from the get-go. Madison Corrick hit a single up the middle, stole second, then scored on a single from Bailey Byers.

Tiffin would answer in the bottom half, scoring two on a double to left center field.

The Pioneer offense continued into the second inning, as four runs came across. A base hit by Emily Betts and a walk drawn by Erika Johnson put two on for Madison Corrick, who singled to center field and brought home both baserunners. April Howser would score Corrick on a base knock and Serena Tucciarelli followed up with a hit of her own to score Howser and make it 5-2.

Tiffin turned on the jets in the third. The Dragons scored six runs in the inning and would not look back from there. Tiffin scratched across three more in the fourth inning, taking advantage of costly Pioneer errors, and one run in the fifth made it a 12-5 game.

Allyson Gruen pitched two innings and Samantha Fruchey threw the final four innings.

- Madison Corrick finished the day with four RBIs and two runs scored
- April Howser batted 3-for-7 with an RBI and run scored
