Ohio Valley Blanks Malone in Game One of Doubleheader, Game Two Suspended

The Malone University baseball team was shut out 4-0 by Ohio Valley University in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Game two of the doubleheader (game four of the series) was suspended due to rain in the top of the third inning with Malone leading 4-0.

The rain-plagued series, which already included a Thursday split and a Friday washout, will resume on Monday, April 22nd at 12:00 pm with the conclusion of the suspended contest. Following that, Malone travels to Walsh on Tuesday, April 23rd for a regularly scheduled doubleheader.

Game One Recap
Backed by a strong pitching performance by Garrett Bonnett (2-3), the Fighting Scots went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in the seven-inning shutout victory. Bonnett struck out five and limited Malone to just four singles through six innings pitched.

Pioneer starter Christian Specht (4-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) through four-plus innings. James Kontur tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

Turner Hill, Matt Noel, Trey Davis, and Clay Wisner each collected base hits in the shutout, Malone's third of the season. With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 30-13 on the year and 19-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Ohio Valley improved to 8-29 overall, 8-15 in the G-MAC.

In the nine-inning Game Two, Malone scored four runs in the top of the first inning and still led 4-0 when the rains began to fall in the top of the third. Tommy Walker allowed just one hit through two innings pitched.
