Recap
The Pioneers broke an 8-8 tie early on and took their largest lead of the game eight minutes into the contest. An 8-2 run featuring three-pointers from
Jaret Majestic and
Bo Myers and a layup from
Sehill Mouliom put the Pioneers ahead 16-10. Malone stayed in front for the next eight minutes and even created some highlight-reel footage on a thunderous alley-oop slam from
Marcus Ernst off an inbounds pass from
Eli Ramsey under the basket.
Â
After Ernst's dunk made it a 23-19 margin, the momentum surprisingly swung in favor of Cedarville. The Jackets scored on back-to-back possessions before the two squads saw themselves deadlocked at 26-26 with under five minutes left in the half. The visitors closed out the half on a 16-5 run and carried a 42-31 lead into the break.
Â
The Pioneers came out firing in the second half and closed the gap to just two points at 47-45 when
Daylan Haynie buried an open three-pointer six minutes into the frame. Malone, however, never came closer for the duration of the game. Cedarville pulled away methodically down the stretch, scoring 29 points in the final 10 minutes to hand Malone its first conference loss.
