The Malone University men's basketball team dropped to 1-1 on the season with an 83-56 setback to the University of Southern Indiana, ranked 18th in the NCAA DII Coaches Poll, Saturday afternoon in a Midwest Region crossover contest at Hillsdale College.

Malone grabbed its largest lead of the game when a
Daylan Haynie three-pointer put the Pioneers up 4-2 a minute into the game. The Screaming Eagles regained the lead two minutes later and never trailed again. USI pulled away with an 18-5 run and eventually led 42-26 at the half.
Southern Indiana opened the second half on 20-4 run to extend its lead to 30 points. The Pioneer high point of the second half was a 12-0 run which included three-pointers from
Marcus Ernst,
Jaret Majestic, and
Eli Ramsey, but it was far too little far too late as USI rolled to victory.
