Malone Clinches Postseason Berth Despite Loss at Tiffin in Regular Season Finale

The Malone University volleyball team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 21-25, 13-25, 24-26 defeat at Tiffin University. Malone finished the regular season with a 10-21 overall record and a 5-7 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Despite Saturday's loss, Malone earned a spot in the G-MAC Championship Tournament by virtue of Lake Erie's loss to Findlay. The Pioneers are the G-MAC's number eight seed and will meet top-seed Hillsdale in a Quarterfinal match on Tuesday.

Recap
Malone led by as many as three point in the first set, but the Dragons, who were celebrating Senior Day, turned a 10-7 deficit into 20-14 lead with a 13-4 run and held on to win the set. An abrupt second set featured 6-0 and 9-2 runs as the Dragons went up by two.

In a longer and much closer third set, a 7-0 run for the Pioneers gave Malone an 11-4 advantage before Tiffin began chipping away. The Dragons finally caught up to Malone at 18-18 and later won four of the final five points of the match to complete the three-set sweep.

Senior Hannah Eliason registered eight kills to lead the Malone attack from her middle hitter position. Senior outside hitter Faith Lau added six kills, two aces and 11 digs. Rachel Santos chipped in six kills as well.
