The Malone University men's basketball team plays in a pair of non-conference games this week, including the Pioneers' home opener this Saturday. Malone goes on the road on Wednesday, November 13 to the University of Charleston to play the Golden Eagles. Next, the Pioneers will host Bethany College for the first men's basketball game at Osborne Hall in the 2019-20 season.

Malone and Charleston met for the first time last season and the Pioneers won in a dramatic 84-82 comeback after being down six with under three minutes to play. Recent Malone graduate
Nate Sheppard buried four shots from long distance down the stretch as part of a game-high 28 points to seal the victory.

Malone and Bethany College in West Virginia have never played each other. However, the Pioneers have played against Bethany College in California in 1998, and are 1-0 against schools named Bethany.

The Pioneers traveled to Hillsdale College last weekend to participate in the Midwest Region Crossover where they finished 1-1. Malone defeated Oakland City on Friday 93-77, but dropped a game versus NCAA Division II #18 Southern Indiana 83-56.

Against Oakland City, the Pioneers were led by freshman guard
Bo Myers. Myers scored a game-high 20 points in his first collegiate regular season game and was the team's leading rebounder with seven. Myers was 7-11 from the field on Friday, connecting on three shots from behind the arc.

Jaret Majestic scored 17 points off the bench in game one, and led the team with 14 points in game two against Southern Indiana this weekend.

Sophomore
Eli Ramsey made his first career start on Friday and was an offensive sparkplug, scoring 15 points against the Mighty Oaks.

Big men
Sehill Mouliom and
Marcus Ernst each cracked the starting five in both games. Mouliom averaged 11 points and four rebounds and Ernst 10.5 points and five rebounds on the weekend. Each player posted five offensive rebounds apiece as well.

Daylan Haynie led the team in assists in the games, including five against Oakland City.

Freshman
Levi Seiler scored his first points as a Pioneer with five in Friday's victory.

As a team, the Pioneers forced 28 turnovers and leads the conference in turnover margin by taking care of the basketball in the opening weekend.

The Pioneers will travel about three hours down Interstate-77 to the heart of Charleston, West Virginia to face the Golden Eagles in the second year of a home-and-home series. The contest will be the home opener for the University of Charleston. The Golden Eagles finished with a record of 20-9 last year.

Last weekend, Charleston went 2-0 in the PSAC/MEC Challenge, recording wins against Shepherd University by a score of 71-60, and a buzzer-beating victory over California University of Pennsylvania, 72-71.

Against Shepherd, Devon Robinson led the scoring with 21 points and brought down a team-high nine rebounds. He recorded a double-double versus the Vulcans with 18 points and 11 boards.

Drew Rackley, a senior guard from John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio, is the team's ironman. He led the team in minutes with 36 and 39 in each of the two games last weekend. Rackley netted 14 points in both games, including a three at the buzzer to sink the Vulcans.

Junior post player Lamont McManus lit up the Pioneers last season with 27 points and eight rebounds. He scored 17 points in the win versus California (PA) to jump start his 2019-20 season.

A local talent from Green High School in Uniontown, Ohio, Kaleb Martin saw his first career minutes off the bench as a freshman for the Golden Eagles in each of the two games and connected on his first career shot from distance.

Bethany College is a NCAA Division III institution located in Bethany, West Virginia. The Bisons compete in the Presidents' Athletics Conference (PAC) with teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Bethany is led by fourth year head coach, Nick Hager.

Bethany dropped their first two games of the season to Susquehanna by a score of 90-47 and Penn State-Altoona in a shootout 98-95. The Bison will travel to Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday night before making the trip to Canton, Ohio this Saturday afternoon. In 2018-19, Bethany finished the season 5-20.

Dalton Hamrick is the team's leading scorer through the team's first two games. The junior transfer scored 13 points against Susquehanna and set a new career-high with 23 against Penn State-Altoona. He also collected nine rebounds against the Nittany Lions.

Derek White Jr scored 13 versus Penn State-Altoona and dished out eight assists.
