Malone to Host Ursuline and Lake Erie in Two Crucial G-MAC Matches

Faith Lau leads the Pioneers with eight double-doubles on the season.

The Malone University volleyball team welcomes Ursuline College this Friday, October 25th and Lake Erie College on Saturday 26th for a pair of conferences matches, the results of which could go a long way in terms of postseason positioning. Malone, in desperate need of a win, currently sits in 10th place among the 13 teams in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The top-8 teams at the end of the season earn a berth into the G-MAC Championship tournament.

Malone Notes
  • The Pioneers are looking to overcome their longest losing streak in four years in their two home matches this weekend. Malone lost to NCAA DII #19 Wheeling in four sets in their most recent match on Tuesday to extend its streak to eight straight.
  • Freshman right side hitter Kayla Jarosz tied a season-high with 17 kills in the non-conference loss. Jarosz leads the Pioneers with 2.62 kills per set this season.
  • Senior libero Sydney Black, a Midwest Region Crossover All-Tournament Team selection last weekend, leads the Pioneers and ranks fourth in the G-MAC with 4.39 digs per set. She also has a team-high 24 aces.
  • Junior setter Elizabeth Selleny leads the team in assists and is coming off a 25-assists, 11-dig double-double at Wheeling.
  • Senior outside hitter Faith Lau leads Malone in doubles-doubles (8), is averaging 2.18 kills and 3.27 digs per set, and ranks second on the team with 22 aces.
  • Starting in place of injured middle hitter Hannah Eliason, junior Brooklyn Sullivan collected eight kills on Tuesday.
  • Junior Rachel Santos, playing at the right side pin, totaled nine kills in three blocks in the match. She and Sullivan are tied for second on the team with 36 blocks.
  • The Pioneers are 1-3 at home this season and have gone to four sets in all four matches. Malone has gone to four or more sets in all but five matches this season.
  • Malone lost to Ursuline at home in four sets last season, but topped Lake Erie at home in five. The Pioneers also defeated Ursuline at the Wayne State in a five-set non-conference bout in September.
     
 Ursuline Notes
  • The Arrows are 1-12 away from their home gym this season, but are coming off a five-set win over Lindenwood in Indianapolis last Saturday.
  • Senior outside hitter Vikki Henderson, who is averaging 2.17 kills per set, tallied a team-high 14 kills against Malone when the two teams met in September.

Lake Erie Notes
  • The Storm, who are just 2-9 away from Painesville, are coming off of a 1-2 weekend at the Midwest Region Crossover. Lake Erie defeated William Jewell in four sets in last Saturday's matchup.
  • Junior middle hitter Courtney Rosebrook recorded a season-high 16 kills in that victory. She leads the Storm and ranks among the G-MAC top-10 in both hitting percentage (.280) and blocks per set (.80).
