Women's Soccer Hosts Lake Erie and Ursuline in G-MAC Competition

The Malone University women's soccer team hosts a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference matches this weekend. The first game is Thursday, October 3 against Lake Erie College followed by a Saturday, October 5 afternoon contest versus Ursuline College. Both matches will kick-off at 4 pm on Hazen Field.

Series History:
The Pioneers are 5-2-1 all-time versus the Lake Erie Strom. In 2018, Malone hosted Lake Erie for their final home game of the season where the Pioneers won 1-0 off of a goal by Kirsten Hilty in the 21st minute.
 
The series between Malone and the Ursuline Arrows is knotted up at 6 wins apiece. The season series was split in 2018, with Ursuline taking a 2-1 double overtime win at home to begin the year and Malone winning a home contest in the later stages of the year by the same score.

Last week, Malone hung five goals on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers to get their first conference win of the season, 5-1. Danielle Lung continued her impressive string of games to start the year by completing a hat trick with goals in the 8th, 11th and 84th minutes. She has a total of six goals, which puts her in second place in the conference for individual goal scorers.
 
Other goal scorers in the game were Madeline Ault and Jeanette Soricelli. The goal was the first in Soricelli's career.
 
Malone is continuing to outshoot opponents by a wide margin, extending the gap to 97-50 in total shots taken. The team's 30 shots versus Alderson Broaddus were the most shots taken in a game since an early season match against Defiance College in 2017. Haley Berry, Addisyn Lewis and Anna Schmeltzer all played a role in the win.
 
Keeley Malley has produced offensively as well, with 14 shots (nine on goal), one goal and one assist.
 
Natalie Martorana and Lindsey Soltisz have played all 456 minutes on the defensive end. Martorana has two assists and Soltisz has one.

Lake Erie hosted Findlay and Tiffin leading up to their match against the Pioneers. The Storm lost to Findlay 3-0 and beat Tiffin 2-1. Lake Erie is an impressive 3-0-1 on the road this season and have yet to allow a goal in those games.
 
Haley Scherer and Carley Kandel are tied for the team lead in points for the Storm. The duo has six points apiece and combined for 25 of the team's 59 shot attempts. Senior midfielder Holland Erb is also a threat to score, with two goals and seven shots (six on goal) this season.
 
Lake Erie's goalkeeper is freshman Megan Biddell, who has 46 saves and two shutouts in seven matches.
 
Baylor Fortune, Krista Harbart, Michaela Hoagland and Emily Scheppner have started all seven games on defense for Lake Erie this season.

Record: 2-2-1 (1-1-1)
 
Ursuline will play Walsh on October 3 before traveling to Canton to face the Pioneers. Last week, the Arrows hosted Tiffin and Findlay for Homecoming Weekend. Ursuline defeated Tiffin 2-0 and lost to Findlay 3-1.
 
Sarah Mitchell has been the focus of the Ursuline offense. She has scored three of the six team goals and has yet to come off the field.
 
Arrow keeper Gina Cerny is the only other player to have been on the field for all 470 minutes. She has recorded 26 saves on 58 shots faced.
 
Jarah Froehlich holds the team lead in shots taken with 18, and Hannah Pickens follows closely behind with 14.
