Malone Volleyball to Take Part in Midwest Region Crossover Tourney

Right side hitter Rachel Santos is averaging 2.25 points per set.

The Malone University volleyball team travels to Indianapolis this weekend to compete in the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament, which consists of 16 teams from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), 13 from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and 12 from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
 
A total of 62 matches will be played over 11 courts at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis. Malone, the number nine seed in the G-MAC, will meet GLVC #11 Quincy University and GLVC #10 William Jewell College on Friday, and GLIAC #9 University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.

Malone Notes
  • The Pioneers, who are 2-5 in neutral-site matches this season, are looking to get back on track after four-straight losses.
  • Malone is also hoping to reverse the trend of losing six straight and nine of their last 10 matches at the Midwest Region Crossover.
  • Malone enters the tournament ranked seventh in the Midwest in total digs (1,200) and 12th in service aces (100).
  • Senior libero Sydney Black (4.25 digs per set, 20 aces) leads Malone in both categories and ranks 8th in the region with 306 total digs. In Malone's four-set loss to Walsh last Friday, Black eclipsed 1,000 digs for her career.
  • Freshman right side hitter Kayla Jarosz leads Malone in kills per set (2.50) and hitting percentage (.251). She has paced the Pioneers in kills in each of the past three matches.
  • Senior outside hitter Faith Lau is averaging 2.16 kills per set, is tied for the team lead in aces (20) and ranks second in digs (3.33 per set). Lau recently surpassed 900 career digs and could reach 900 kills by the end of the weekend.
  • Setters Elizabeth Selleny (5.17 assists per set, 17 aces) and Abbie Swaino (4.65 assists per set, 16 aces) continue to quarterback the Malone attack, which ranks 12th in the Region in total assists.
  • Rachel Santos (28) and Brooklyn Sullivan (27) have combined for 55 blocks to lead the front row defense.
  • The Pioneers are 3-7 versus the Midwest Region opposition this season.
     
Quincy Notes
  • Quincy has won three of its last four matches overall, but are 3-6 in neutral site matches. The Hawks are led by Emily Rehagen (3.08 kills per set) and Sarah Brown (2.7 kills per set, .365 hitting percentage).
     
William Jewell Notes
  • The Cardinals, who are ranked 5th in the Region in blocks but last in aces, are 4-5 in neutral site matches. Tori Vogt (2.95 kills per set) leads the attack while Elizabeth Quinn is 4th in the nation with 1.44 blocks per set.
     
Wisconsin-Parkside Notes
  • The Rangers enter the weekend with six losses in their last seven matches. Rachel Hedman (3.13 kills per set) leads the attack while Ann Leo leads the back row, ranking ninth in the Midwest in digs per set (4.63).
