Recap
Freshman forward Madeline Ault put the Pioneers in front midway through the first half after taking a long assist pass from fellow freshman Alenna Bible and then beating the keeper from just outside 20 yards. Her goal was her second in as many collegiate matches.
Â
Malone took a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute when sophomore Amanda Kinsey scored what proved to be the game-winner. Following a shot attempt from Kirsten Hilty, Kinsey gathered a deflection off of the goalkeeper's hands and deposited a short shot in front of the goal into the back of the net. The goal was the second of her career.
Â
The Hilltoppers cut the deficit to one in the 40th minute with a breakaway goal. That would be the lone tally for West Liberty as net-minders Mckenzie Chappell (three saves) and Jessica Morgan (two saves) combined to shut out WLU over the final 50 minutes.
Â
Malone tacked on its final score in the 77th minute, executing a set-piece goal off a corner kick from Alexa Langenfeld to senior midfielder Kassidy Hannum, who found the net with a header. Hannum's goal was the fifth of her career while Langenfeld's assist was her collegiate first.
