The Malone University cross country teams competed at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by the University of Akron at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
In a field consisting of collegiate teams from all over the state of Ohio, including numerous NCAA Division I programs, the Pioneer men placed third in the overall standings while the Malone women took ninth overall.
The host Zips placed first on the men's side among 39 competing teams with 90 points, followed by Ohio University in second with 93 points. Malone, ranked 22nd in the most recent NCAA Division II National Poll, was third with 109, NCAA Division II #18 Walsh University was fourth with 112 and Cedarville University was fifth at 139.
Individually,
George McCartney led the way for the Pioneers, placing 16th overall with a time of 24:42.6 on the 8K course.Â
Brett Cortelletti was right on McCartney's heels, placing 17th in 24:47.0.Â
Nick Chaplik was 20th in 24:54.6 followed by
Zach Fresenko in 25th at 25:01.9 and
Noah Chaplik in 31st in 25:07.5.Â
Other Malone men's performances included
Noah Whittington at 25:27.9,
Lucas Huber in 25:41.1,
Christopher Cannon in 25:51.0 and
Nicholas Michels at 26:27.5.
The University of Toledo captured the overall women's title with an impressive total of 32 points. NCAA Division II #12 Walsh took second with 105 points. Wright State University was third with 106 points, followed by Akron with 116 points and Ohio University with 176. Malone totaled 246 points for its ninth place finish among 38 teams in the overall women's standings.
Jasmine Penrod was the top finisher for the Pioneer women as she took 26th overall after registering a time of 22:29.7 on the 6K course.Â
Mackenna Curtis-Collins followed in 35th with a mark of 22:39.9.Â
Rachel Wentworth was 49th in 22:57.9,
Maria Martin was 63rd at 23:13.8 and
Leah Metzger was 73rd in 23:25.6.
Additional Pioneer women's performances included
Jocelyn Miller with a time of 23:42.9,
Clare Willett at 24:19.3,
Jenna Beakas at 24:50.3 and
Dana Risley in 24:52.1.
