The Malone University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the University of Findlay on Thursday afternoon at Canton Central Catholic High School.
Malone grabbed a 1-0 lead near the end of the opening period when
Alexa Langenfeld notched her first goal of the season. Passes from
Keeley Malley and
Kassidy Hannum set Langenfeld up on the right side of the penalty box. Langenfeld then avoided a defender and fired a shot that sailed just out of the reach of the goalkeeper, putting the Pioneers ahead in the 43rd minute.
The Oilers, who entered the contest in first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings with a 6-0-2 record, had trailed for a total of just six minutes through their first eight matches of the season. However, the Pioneers would maintain a 1-0 edge over the next 39 minutes of play until Findlay's Brenna Shipley knotted things up with just nine minutes to go off a pass from teammate Karleigh Clere.
The Oilers struck again less than four minutes later as Clere put Findlay in front after corralling a header from teammate Sami Hild and ripping a shot into the net in the 85th minute of the contest.
Malone slipped to 2-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference with the defeat while the Oilers remained undefeated, improving to 7-0-2 and 6-0-2 in G-MAC competition.
Findlay held a 17-5 edge in total shots and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Pioneer goalkeeper
Haleigh Seman registered six saves on the afternoon.
