The Malone University cross country teams began the 2018 academic year by competing at the non-scoring College of Wooster Invitational on Friday evening.
In the four-mile men's race, the Pioneers registered eight of the top ten individual times.Â
George McCartney claimed first with a mark of 21:17.2. The next five finishers were also Malone competitors as
Nick Chaplik was second at 21:19.6,
Brett Cortelletti was third in 21:24.1,
Lucas Huber placed fourth at 21:30.4,
Zach Fresenko was fifth in 21:33.5 and
Noah Whittington took sixth in 21:39.3. Also earning Top 10 spots for the Malone men were
Nicholas Michels in eighth and
Christopher Cannon in tenth.
Malone newcomer
Mackenna Curtis-Collins took second in the women's 4K event with a mark of 14:49.0.Â
Rachel Wentworth was third in 15:17.1 and
Jasmine Penrod finished fourth in 15:18.1. Other Top 10 performers in the women's race included
Maria Martin in sixth at 15:43.5 and
Leah Metzger in seventh with a time of 15:45.9.
The Pioneers' full varsity roster will be in action next Saturday as the squad competes at the University of Akron's Tommy Evans Invitational.
