The Malone University softball team split a pair of games against Trevecca Nazarene University on Friday. Trevecca took game one in six innings by a score of 9-1. The Pioneers won game two by a score of 4-2, ending a nine-game losing streak.
Game One Recap
The Trojans had a big four-run inning in the second inning to break the 0-0 tie. Trevecca Nazarene had four hits in the inning, combined with two errors on the Pioneer defense.
Malone got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo shot by
Ashley Beck. Beck's homerun was her sixth homerun of the season.
The Trojans tacked on one more in the fifth, and then had another four-run inning in the sixth to put Malone away early. The Pioneers committed another pair of errors in the sixth inning.
Game Two Recap
Trevecca Nazarene took an early 2-0 lead in game two, but the Trojan offense went silent from then on.
As the Trojans went cold, the Pioneers got on a roll, starting with a solo shot by
Bailey Byers in the third inning.
The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning on a four-hit, two-run inning.
Emily Beck tied the game 2-2 with an RBI single, scoring
Serena Tucciarelli. With two outs in the inning
Abigail Mowrer delivered, singling to the pitcher and scoring
Ashley Beck to take the lead.
Trevecca Nazarene threatened in the bottom of the sixth, as they had two runners on base with nobody out. However, the Pioneer defense was able to work itself out of the inning without giving up a run.
Bailey Byers hit her second homerun of the game, and seventh of the season, in the top of the 7
th to give Malone the 4-2 lead.
Three players had a multi-hit game, highlighted by
Bailey Byers' two homeruns. Mowrer and
Shelby Hulin each had two hits as well. Seven different players had hits for Malone.
Samantha Fruchey pitched five shutout innings in relief, as she picked up her third win of the season.

Malone will take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday before returning home to take on Point Park on Monday where they will celebrate Senior Day.
