Recap
Austin White's run-scoring single in the bottom of the first gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. That lead quickly evaporated, however, as the Panthers scored four runs, two in the second and two in the third, against Malone starter
Joshua Hurford (3-3).
Â
The two teams were held scoreless until the top of the seventh when ODU added three more runs to take a 7-1 advantage. Down by six, the Pioneers refused to go away, responding with three runs of their own, all with two outs, in the bottom of the frame.
Todd Ropp's RBI single made it a 7-2 game before
Damian Maglione followed with a two-run double that trimmed the deficit to 7-4.
Â
The Pioneers were unable to push another run across, however, while ODU tacked on runs in each of the final two innings to come away with the 9-4 victory.
Â
Turner Hill led Malone with three hits and a pair of runs scored. Maglione doubled twice while
Clay Wisner added a double and a single. Senior pitcher
Jordan Yoder collected a season-high five strikeouts over 3.1 innings of relief.
