The Malone University softball team won a pair of contests against Ohio Valley in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers won the first contest 6-4 and won the second contest 5-2. The Pioneers start the season off 8-4 (2-0 in the G-MAC).

Game One Recap
The Pioneers dug a big hole in the top of the first inning, allowing three runs on four hits and an error. However, the team bounced back in the bottom half of the inning to score two runs of their own.
Both offenses would remain quiet through the fourth inning. In the top half of the fifth, Ohio Valley extended their lead to 4-2.
The Pioneers answered back in a big way in the bottom half of the inning.
Nicole Ferrara hit a leadoff triple, bringing
Bailey Byers to the plate to represent the tying run. Byers smashed her second collegiate homerun to right center, tying the game a four runs apiece.
Malone took the lead in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from
Kendall Reidenbach. They would add one more run later in the inning on a
Nicole Ferrara single, taking a 6-4 lead that would hold for the win.
Isabella Roberts moved to 4-0 on the season, pitching a complete game for the fourth straight start.
Ferrara, Byers, and
Serena Tucciarelli each had a multi-hit game.

Game Two Recap
Ohio Valley once again struck first in game two, taking a 1-0 lead going into the middle of the first inning.
The Pioneer offense exploded for four runs in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, the Pioneer offense was able to rattle off four straight hits starting with a single to third by
Serena Tucciarelli.
Anna Myers smacked a double to right center, scoring Tucciarelli and tying the game 1-1. Corrick moved Myers to third on a single, allowing Myers to give the Pioneers the lead crossing home plate on a passed ball.
Ashley Beck put the cherry on top, hitting a two-run homer to left field and giving Malone 4-1 lead.
Ohio Valley added one more run in the second to make the score 4-2. Malone would go on to score one more in the fourth on an RBI single from
Caley Ritts to give Malone the 5-2 victory.
Samantha Fruchey picked up the complete game victory.
