Day Four Heat Sheet (Prelims)
The Malone University swimming and diving teams turned in a number of memorable performances on Friday at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference / Mountain East Conference Championships. Two school records were surpassed while numerous personal records were broken.
After three days of competition, the Pioneer men are currently in second-place among eight squads in the team standings while the Malone women are third among 10 institutions.
The meet concludes on Saturday at Branin Natatorium with the prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m. A special senior recognition will take place at 5:00 p.m. prior to the start of finals at 5:30 p.m.
Women's Highlights
The Pioneer 800-yard freestyle relay team of
Carolin Friedrich,
Denise Quentin,
Kaila Butterworth and
Abby Reynolds smashed Malone's all-time record with a fourth-place time of 7:51.01. The strong showing eclipsed the previous school record by over 14 seconds.
Reynolds also moved to the top of the Pioneers' all-time list in the 100-yard backstroke as her 10th-place time of 1:01.43 eclipsed Brittany McCue's previous mark of 1:02.68.
Brittany Sheets took over the No. 4 position in the Malone record book in the 100-yard backstroke with a finals time of 1:04.14. During the prelims of the event,
Nicole Kenny registered the best time of her collegiate career with a mark of 1:04.38. Kenny's performance ranks sixth all-time at Malone.
In the finals of the 500-yard freestyle, Friedrich brought home a sixth-place overall finish in 5:16.70, just missing her own school record in the event.
Claire Bergefurd won her "C" final race in the 500 free with a new personal best of 5:37.56. Bergefurd's time moves her to eighth on the program's all-time list.
Butterworth finished eighth in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke. Her prelim time on Friday of 1:08.12 is the third-best in Malone history. In the finals of the 100 breaststroke,
Alex Dutton also edged her personal record, notching a time of 1:13.24.
Quentin took eighth in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly. Quentin (2:18.59),
Kaylor Schuttinger (2:21.30),
Christina Neumann (2:22.06) and
Quincy Livchak (2:28.63) all eclipsed their personal records during Friday's competition. Quentin remains in second on the Pioneers' all-time list in the 200 fly while Schuttinger moved up to third all-time.
Senior
Kaitlyn Hoch placed third in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 314.75.
Men's Highlights
Brice Dixon posted a third-place overall finish in the finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a new personal-record time of 1:55.29.
Rhett Sanford also surpassed his previous personal best, moving up to sixth on the Pioneer list with a mark of 2:00.52.
In the finals of the 500-yard freestyle,
Wesley Hammond took fourth while
Nick Wertz followed closely in fifth. Hammond took over the No. 2 spot on the Pioneers' all-time list in the event with his time of 4:42.40 while Wertz is fifth all-time after tallying a mark of 4:44.52.
Cobie Mikesell finished eighth in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke. During the prelims, both Mikesell and
Austin Weingart surpassed their previous personal records. Mikesell is now fifth all-time at Malone at 54.74 seconds while Weingart is ninth at 56.98 seconds.
Bradley Bowers placed sixth overall in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke. During the prelims of the event, Bowers and
Peyton Hamilton each established new PR's. Bowers is now fifth on Malone's all-time performers list in the event with a time of 59.91 seconds while Hamilton is ninth all-time in 1:02.41.
In the final event of the evening, Malone's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Wertz, Dixon, Hammond and
Markus Brunzel took fourth after recording the ninth-best time in program history at 7:05.30.
