The Malone University men's soccer team endured a tough 2-1 defeat at Trevecca Nazarene University on Saturday.
The Pioneers held the potent offense of the Trojans scoreless in the first half.
Malone's
Jake Martell netted a goal all on his own in the 56th minute to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. The score marked Martell's second goal of the season.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the early second-half score was all the offense they could muster.
The Trojans' offense was held in check until in the 81st minute when Ethan Keogh scored his eighth goal of the season to tie the match up 1-1.
Moments later, Nicolas Reinhard, the Trojans' second-leading scorer, followed with his seventh goal of the season, putting TNU in front in the 85th minute.
Malone drops to 4-8-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the conference with the loss while Trevecca climbs to 7-4-1 overall and 6-4-0 in the conference.
Fortunately, the Pioneers are still tied for seventh in the G-MAC standings with three conference games to play, one spot away from the sixth and final playoff spot
