The Malone University cross country teams wrapped up their regular-season schedule on Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Slippery Rock University's Pre-Nationals Meet.
Competing on the same Schenley Park course that will host the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet on December 1, both Pioneer squads collected Top 10 finishes among a strong field of competing institutions.
The Malone men, ranked 21st in the most recent NCAA Division II National Poll, finished fifth among 29 teams while the Pioneer women were eighth among 30 programs.
The Colorado School of Mines, the No. 3 ranked team in NCAA Division II, won the men's race with an impressive total of 19 points. NCAA Division II No. 6 Queens University of Charlotte and NCAA Division II No. 9  University of Mount Olive tied for second, each with 126 points. Cedarville University was fourth with 158 points, Malone was next with 164 points and NCAA Division II No. 15 Walsh University was sixth at 169. Also competing in the field was No. 25 Edinboro University which placed ninth with 274 points.
George McCartney led the way for the Pioneers, placing seventh overall on the 8K course with a time of 25:36.Â
Zach Fresenko followed in 23rd with a mark of 26:13 and
Noah Chaplik was 37th at 26:31.Â
Brett Cortelletti (26:41),
Christopher Cannon (26:42) and
Lucas Huber (26:45) grabbed places 48-50 while
Nicholas Michels took 55th at 26:57.
In the 6K women's race, NCAA Division II No. 6 Colorado Mines secured the team title with 37 points. No. 16 Walsh was second with 91 points and No. 18 Hillsdale was third with 128 points. Roberts Wesleyan University took fourth with 157 points and No. 17 Queens was fifth with 176 points. 23rd-ranked Mount Olive was seventh at 245 points followed by Malone in eighth with 307 points. Also competing was No. 20 Edinboro which finished tenth with 323 points.
Individually for the Pioneers,
Jasmine Penrod paced the team by finishing 42nd in 23:56.Â
Leah Metzger followed in 52nd at 24:03 and
Maria Martin was 64th at 24:16.Â
Jocelyn Miller placed 68th at 24:26,
Jenna Beakas took 81st at 24:46,
Julia Westall was 92nd with a time of 24:58 and
Dana Risley finished 100th in 25:08.
